My Home

My Home

A Poem by Poetry Pig
"

This one is something I'm proud of. It means a lot to me.

Hello there, welcome to my home
I'm surprised you found it on this desolate road
It's a bit out of the way, far from any city
Shrouded in the trees, hidden from reality
It's where I go when I need to be alone
But you're welcome to come in, I'll show you around
I suggest you don't stay long though
Or you'll end up building your own
In any case, here is the living room
There isn't much to see, I've got a couch
The TV doesn't show an image, nor does it have sound
I usually just stare at my reflection, it's a show I wouldn't recommend
I don't have carpet, it was stained with all the emotions I've spilt on it
But let's continue to the kitchen
As you can see, I have the necessities
A sink, and a refrigerator that's usually empty
When I'm home, I don't eat
It's always like my stomach is against me
The silverware is in the drawer, but I don't have any knives
I'm scared that one day I'll learn I bleed
And there is no table, I hardly have company
I feel, anyway, that no one really cares
But if you'd follow me, we will head upstairs
My bedroom is up there
I'm sorry for the mess, my mistakes are all over the place
So all I ask is if you don't stare
And for any reason, feel free to leave
But as you could tell, I've got no bed sheets
They aren't in the laundry, I've tossed them all
I hate the memories
I don't use my closet, that's where I stuff all of my lies
Sometimes, I feel that the door creeps open at night
And they peek out, waiting for the right time
As for my desk, that's where my writing sits
In fact, this house, that's where I built it
The walls, the floors, the ceiling
Every little bit
I was going to make it perfect
Follow every direction, every measurement
I refused to stray far from the blueprints
And when I started, I couldn't quit
I knew that if I could just finish this place
I'd be safe
But, I forgot to ask
How did you find me here?
I never paved a road, the path has been overgrown
Unless...
Unless you're wanting to build a home
That you came here to get ideas for your own
But it's not how you think
You'll get trapped there, you won't ever want to leave
It's safer in here, I understand that
But being gone to long
You won't want to go back
And eventually, your fears will find you
I would know
Because I've resorted to barring the windows and locking the doors
If you peer out within the boards, you'll notice their shadows
Their glowing eyes will peirce your soul
So please, be careful as you go
Watch your step on the way out
And I hope that you make it home...
