Recurring Dream

Recurring Dream

A Poem by Poetry Pig
"

I wrote this and figured I'd show everyone since it is one of my personal favorites.

"
Staring up at the moon with you by that lake
We knew this would be the last time
And it isn't a secret that we are both afraid
We sit in quiet for if we speak, it will be a goodbye
I don't want to leave, but it's getting late
As the water gathers in our eyes
You beg for me to stay
You say this could be a new start
We could be happy and mend our broken hearts
That we can rekindle a flame with just a spark
But deep down, we know we are only shadows
Left in the shade
I wish there was some other way
But this love we shared has slowly decayed
There's no way to return from a rusted state
And as I begin to walk away
The sun comes up from its sleep
The rays pointing behind me
I turn my head back to something I always expect to see
Where you stood just moments before
Were a set of footprints on the shore
And the light shining on just a memory...

I really like this! The solemnity of the situation really comes through the words, just two people realizing they need to move on, because love shared in the past cannot sustain a future. I especially like the part "we are only shadows, left in the shade", very creative.
