Mamma

As I shed a single tear
I stare at the screen
Wondering how you could be so mean
To show not one ounce of care
I need you there for me
Mamma, why can't you see
I need you to be there
As I walk down the Isle
With my cap and gown
Waiting for my name to be called
I want you to be there
As I walk across the stage
When I'm handed my diploma 
I wan't to turn towards you
Smiling " Mamma I did it... Your Baby Girl Graduated High School"
I want you to watch as I turn my tassel from left to right
for you to see me toss my hat up into the air
As I cheer and cry while I sing the school Alma mater
One last time as a student at Toronto High School
But as I look at your message on the screen
I shed a single tear...
knowing you will not be there.

Author's Note

I wrote this to my mother thinking she did not care about me. Truth was she was not aloud near me. I felt bad afterwards, but I got something simply amazing out of this piece.

Nothing can rip us up like thinking mother doesn't care… except, maybe, that mother hates us. I glad it turned out she was kept from you rather than choosing to stay away.

Thank you, I agree with you. So many parents choose to simply stay out of their child's lives, and it scars them growing up.

Truly. I can't imagine not being in my son's life. For all the torment she put us through in the throes of her own madness, I will acknowledge that my mom never left us.

That is good, every parent messes up but some decide they are not worth the time, or not needed. And they are wrong. Unless the mother does harm, she should not be banned from a childs life.

IDK. There's an old saying that is supported by current child welfare practices: "Even a bad mom is better than no mom."
