ROOTS

ROOTS

A Poem by Yellow Butterfly

She is the one, that fills the gaps,
gives those extra hugs, heartfelt
cuddles, being told that she is
the best Auntie they have
ever had,  play dates, fun in
the park, playing hide and go
seek, cinema with popcorn
and ice-cream treats,
reading bedtime
stories as she tucks
them in at night,
to then have to
go back home
on her own

She is the one, that stands alone
watching from the peripheral,
hiding behind a facade, masking
her private despair, so no one
can see her aching heart
silently weepvanquishing
all  of her feelings,
banishing them into
the deepest depths
of the chambers
of her heart,
residing in the
fact she has
no one, to
call her own

She is the one, that screams out
with glee to hear the news of a
newborn, never truly knowing
that feeling of the chance to
experience a skin on skin
connection, to be their
first love, to have their
first eye contact, give
them their first kiss,
to hold their delicate
tiny fingers and toes,
to feel that deep
unconditional
love, to not know
what it feels like
to have and to
hold a child
of her own

She is the one, that over time
has come to terms with living in a
world with no child to call her
mummy, no child to wipe
away their tears, no grazed
knee that only a mothers kiss
can make better,  to sing a
soothing lullaby when
they can't sleep, never
to feel that feeling,
reminded every
day, that she
has no child
of her own

He is the one, that has stayed by
her side, keeping her grounded,
the one that makes her laugh,
the one who wipes her tears
the one who feeds her soul,
loving her unconditionally,
understanding her every
needs, reassuring her
that everything is
going to be okay,
loving her only the
best way he knows
how, showering
her with love
letting her
know that
she is not
on her own

How does she know this?

She knows this because when she sees
his handsome face every single second
of every single hour of every single
day, she is intoxicated by the tone
of his voice, when he tells her
everything happens for a  reason,
God has bigger plans for you,
telling her  every single day
just how much he loves her
and that their hearts are and
will be forever intertwined
as one, like the roots of a
tree, providing anchorage
to nourish every inch of her
mind, body and soul,
wrapping himself around
her so tight, he promises
to keep her safe and
never to let go, their
pulses synchronized
on the same frequency,
he knows her better
than she knows
herself, she feels
grounded and
secure when
she is with
him, because
of this she
knows
she will
never be
on her own

Wow! That is true love which is rare and needed. I felt the sadness and love reading this; some kind a confessional to purge some pain. I came to realize too that some things are not meant to be, not in the plan so to speak, not in the cards. I learned to accept things as they are but with a hope somethings will change. This poem will make someone tear up.
