Red Letter Box

Red Letter Box

Red Letter Box

likened to a soldier, queens guard, he stands to attention ...

solitary, as though confined to an indefinite detention...

adorns his insignia, wears camouflage, a bold bright red...

a delight for sore eyes, it has to be said...

days gone by, once a shade of green...

in amongst landscapes, sight to be seen...

all said and done, he still has a job to do...

patiently waiting to receive letters from you...

although he is in no hurry, time is of the essence...

make haste, write your letters, celebrate his presence...

standing by to deliver  your love letters, far and wide...

no letter box he can't reach, no letters which can't hide...

poise your quill  to paper, before your inkwell runs dry...

no time like now, so write, leave it too late, eyes will cry...

thoughts left unwritten, put down all your hearts desires...

fuelled with a fervour, reigniting your passionate fires...

words of longings, pledging just how much you care...

his job is to reconnect emotions..."halt..who goes there?"

i found the red a little distracting, but I love that you wrote a poem about a post box - how taken for granted they are, with their antique style representing a bygone (perhaps a bit imperialist) era and the old fashioned slot that tells us the day of the next collection, which the post men and women dutifully change when they empty the postboxes. Their days may well be numbered, but for now they are a very familiar site.

In the USA, most of our mailboxes have been s**t-canned. You have to use your own mailbox or go to the post office to mail anything, cuz you probably can't find one of these. This poem feels retro becuz nobody mails anything anymore, even bills & shopping are done online. It feels like you are having a nostalgic field day, coloring fonts red, & other typography tweaks. It's okay to have fun with colors, but just keep in mind that in today's world, many electronic platforms turn text into generic stuff, eliminating or distorting whatever fancy stuff you might do with fonts. I prefer making a point in everyday words that will migrate to any platform without a glitch (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
