Remembering When....

Remembering When....

A Poem by Yellow Butterfly

We bonded from the very start

Not knowing you’d break my heart

Delicate and fragile dare not touch

You said you loved me so very much

We played a game of hide and seek

Through my fingers I would peek

I used to call out “Daddy..look it’s me”

You would pretend you couldn’t see

We played all day in the local park

Fun packed games having a lark

Down the slides I would go solo

You didn’t hesitate to have a go

We visited the beach holding hands

Run barefoot through the sands

Sunshine rays down by the sea

You told me to be happy and free

We baked a cake on mums birthday

We made such a mess I have to say

It wasn’t the best I was only nine

You said don’t worry it tastes fine

We would read story-tales at night

My face aglow under the nightlight

Stories about a Prince & Princess

You even bought me a princess dress

We looked up at the twinkling stars

Pointing to one saying “theirs ours”

Drinking a hot chocolate night cap

You let me fall asleep on your lap

We went to the fair to have fun

After your day at work was done

You had so much fun you didn’t care

You helped me win a cuddle bear

We went to look for my first car

I had to promise I wouldn't go far

Never home I was always out

You warned me of the dangers about

We talked about lots of things

Of the joys that family brings

Always together never be apart

You loved us with all of your heart

We would sit to watch TV together

Memories I will treasure forever

Of a wonderful man I can’t pretend

You were my father till the very end

No longer with me I miss you so

Times wondering why you had to go

Days when I feel really down & sad

I remember the good-times we had

Moment that I dread. Beautiful piece. Grab hold of the memories, and keep them close.

to me, there is nothing more delicate and touching than the love between a daughter and her father. it is a very special bond, unlike any other, particularly when it is a healthy love. this was written with such love and fond memories in mind and heart and is poignant, deeply moving and beautiful. awesome piece, YB!!!

Made me so sad to read this..I miss my Dad like crazy and sadly I also think of my own mortality and the hurt that awaits those youngsters that I love so much
