We soon Forget

We soon Forget

A Poem by Lynn Higgs

We soon Forget
Current mood:   complacent

All the hurt

From words that had been said

About whom they deemed us to be

We soon forget

The bruises to the spirit

As we try to soar above the crowd

Making us realized

We're not as good as them

We soon forget

The humiliation

to put us in our place

Keeping us confined

In the cage they build

We soon forget

To tell anyone Of the agony

That kept us up for nights

As we believed the lies

being spewed towards us

We soon Forget

We are someone daughter

Who is love and cherished

Never to be concealed, hit, forced or insulted

But allowed to flourished

In the light of human acceptance

We soon Forget

We are a person too

With feelings and opinions

Capable of great feats

Just as able to achieved as the others

But hiding from the scorn

Of someone who only wanted to control

We soon forget

Who it is that we are

Accepting the trauma

That is portrayed on us

Believing we deserved it somehow

Never to tell anyone

We soon forget

That we're not to blame

For the hatred we received

To open the doors of freedom

Let out the screams of terror

Free ourselves from the hell

We soon forget

We deserved to be

Validated for who we are

Live without fear

Just taking whatever it is

They have to give

Never questioning

Why they hurt us so much

We soon forget

To Run, Run, Run

Escape the nightmare

That keeps returning

Becoming more lost in whom we are

We soon forget

Who it was that we were

Always keeping quiet

Never a sound

Might rouses the demons

That will let us know

We are nothing

But something for they to hate

We soon forget

That life was happy at one time

We were loved

The world was a safe place

Dreams were more than the terrors

We soon forget

Of a time of laughter

Living to survive another day

Keeping the secrets

That will let

The others know

Just how awful we really are

We soon forget

We are as worthy as everyone else.

We need to leave the world know

Of the tortured

That destroyed our souls

Threatens to take over our very existence

Before it to lat

We soon forget

What it was we were saying

To tired to fight any more

Accepting the hate, they give

Hiding inside who it is

That wants to be freed
