My House

My House

A Poem by Nancy A Halbert
"

This is about the value of doing for oneself. Instead of taking what's handed to you since as well that can come from someone with ulterior motives

"

I don't want no privilege
I don't want no something on a plate
Hand it off to someone else too eager to eat
I’ll go off and f*****g grow my own garden
I'll tend to the seed
I'll throw my hands in the dirt
And need until the weeds are free.
I’ll plant the seeds one by one
And watch them grow
And then I’ll have the finest meal
I’ll ever know.

Thoreau would absolutely love this and cheer for the poet.
Yes, do it yourself, build it yourself, grow it yourself, no frills, just real life...living off the land.
Love the colloquial language here which further drives the message home.

If it only ever worked that way... sigh.
