Lasting Affections

Lasting Affections

A Poem by Poetic License

Wherever your feet have traveled,

Always know that my heart has sojourned also,

You have never spent a night alone,

That your name has not been upon my lips.

Dearest friend, miles are too long

Between love and finding and loss and losing,

How I would change the shape of this world,

If I could but find a lever long enough.

You have moved on through your life,

And I am noble enough to let you do so without me,

No shadow to fall upon your shoulder,

No silent shape slipping along the perimeter of your happiness.

I think of you more often that entirely necessary,

I dream of you incessantly,

I wake to a deeper sense of loss and missing,

For one I as yet hold dear.

Simply know this, dearest one,

That you are held as closely as ever,

Within a heart that has never learned to let go,

In adoration and deepest affection.

Should your thoughts ever turn to me,

I pray they will be gentle and recall all our laughter,

That even despite time and miles,

We may both still share a hidden smile.

I can understand this poem, I've been there . but I found im better off without the person that I missed. I missed the person I thought they were. It's good that you can write out your feelings, I do the same thing with my poetry. very good poem

Absolutely loved the thoughts and emotions that this poem expresses, as well as the memories held tightly written within this piece. Your flow is smooth, and title fits the poem perfectly and the overall structure is well maintained. Nicely done, look forward to exploring more of your written work.

This is a moving, gently touching poem, written with a sense of beauty lost but beauty retained, of fragrant memories and cherished moments. The poem is well crafted, held back from sentimentality by a well formed structure and a smooth flow of words. It tells a story of love and loss with dignity, despite the ache. I wanted to share a smile. 🌺

This is quite lovely, deeply moving and very sad, PL. Whoever you wrote this about should feel truly honored and deeply loved. Your command of words is magnificent, as always.

BTW, I think you meant 'than' rather than 'that' in this line:
'I think of you more often that entirely necessary'.

This is so endearing, sweet and thoughtful. A warm feeling glows inside of this.

Gentle, kind and wonderful words shared dear Poet.
"Should your thoughts ever turn to me,
I pray they will be gentle and recall all our laughter,
That even despite time and miles,
We may both still share a hidden smile."
The above lines. Words, we need to hear. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.
