Yes We Can

Yes We Can

A Poem by *~Poetic_Essence~*
"

It is time for change..

"

I stand in the crowd in awe as I listen to people of all different color, statue, age, gender chanting for the same cause cheering in sync for a promise of hope. A shimmer of change in a positive direction. I am astonished just to be apart of this piece of history, my history, your history. My president is black, who would have ever thought it to be possible.

I look out at my fellow Americans with a tear in my eye, if only our great leaders could be here to share this moment with me, Dr. Martin Luther King, jr., Rosa Parks. Malcomb X, all of the freedom fighters and fearless Underground Railroad slaves. One man stood up with love in his heart and courage running through his veins, he started a movement that became unstoppable with three simple words…YES WE CAN! Yes we can overcome poverty, disease, and starvation…Yes we can stop this pointless war started so many years ago. Yes we can, once again light the torch carried by so many slaves and abolitionists.

Your dreams become my dreams her dreams become his dreams. This is just the beginning “nothing can withstand in the way of millions of voices calling for change…” Obama.

A nation divided can now become united and move forward with a bright future. Stating that my children, and children’s children can be whatever they want to be…if you don’t believe our country can be ran by anything other than a rich white man now then when will you believe..? Tomorrow? A year? 10 years? In your lifetime..? The time is now!

"And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn . . . I hear your voices. I need your help. And I will be your president, too." Obama

Excellent to read! As a female of mixed race myself, Barack Obama winning this election means more than words... so many that I don't know how or where to start! I've never known a time where I've cried so many times in one day for the sake of being OVERJOYED! This is our moment... this is IT! And you've captured it well. Kudos for this!
