Winds of Time

Winds of Time

A Poem by RIch Hilliard
"

a poem about overwhelming regret with a sigh of relief at the end

"

            Winds of Time

I walk with vacant pleas

Down the road of missed opportunities

As my path unwinds, I wish to wind it back up

But in the winds of time, wishes don’t stack up

I sit and I sputter, “Let me go back”

Rewind to the point where I fell off track.

Regret stands tall. How do I go on?

I had it all but now it is gone

If only then I paid the cost

But what could have been; now is lost.

My mind is stuck, thinking about the past

It all went by way too fast

So upset about the bridges I burned

Well I guess that these are just lessons learned

Every moment’s a test

In knowing that, I’m blessed

Since I see how bad things can go

When opportunity knocks, I’ll know.

I really enjoyed this, the topic of looking back into the past and seeing where opportunities were missed ... regretting actions or inaction, it can bog down a soul. I loved though how you ended the piece with the knowledge that in the course of life you can always learn something in every experience, good or bad. That sometimes we need that retrospection to see how we can do better in the future. Wonderful write...thank you for the invite I will be back to read more. :)
