By The Seams

By The Seams

A Poem by Vincent Cuccolo

Indifference is a pill

I swallow whole

Washed down with the putridness

Of incompetence

Distrust

Emotions run dry

Barren

Desolate

This dessert tongue swarming with

The tumbleweeds of disappointment

The empty promises you left behind

This taste in my mouth as rotten

As a corpse

It’s not what you did

IT’S WHAT YOU DIDN’T DO

Actions speak louder than words

And the stage was yours

Always yours

The act forever cut short

The script you couldn’t memorize

The spotlight you run from

I walk away

A giant’s stride

As far as I can

To the ends of creation

Anywhere is better than this

Better than you

Better than us

Pieces

It all looks better in pieces

A beautiful disaster

An eerie, but promising scene

My escape is now

So let it all hang by the seams
