I Have Fancied The Night

I Have Fancied The Night

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

i have fancied the night

life in fifth gear

drowned my myopic sight

so as not to fear

this transcendental ride

on rails and pikes

leave my withered halo home

foolhardy boy on strike

with tongue of filth and foam...

oh nimble night / fathomless

inside a vegas flash

k-holes explored, bottomless

youthful treasure to trash

self-polluting demons

and distant chemical laughs

my saturday night minions

sniff a bullet's unabashed

burn / these nostrils

dance my flesh away

flight without departure

f**k and suck and muck the day

forgotten in the mylar meanings

a kid-bride of denial

numb to eat, but fiending

...quicksilver vials.

nostradamus nights

that pass without my dreams

i have left the light

to wear this thinning scream

bestial fields of gray

touch lost to numb

caught in a spider's spinning fray

physically become dumb

etheral, evil night

in the wash of wicked

i lie to self / lay to die

in thorns of the thickest / cries

lost my halo's sight

i have fancied the night....

A combination of "Life in the Fast Lane" and "That Smell"-if you listen to classic rock.

Don't most of us adverturers go for the dangerous and delightful and find that we are caught in a self absorbing hell? I thought I pulled myself out of the dungeons just to find I entered a nut-ward.

I like this. It portrays a life many are familiar with, but that many more are unfamiliar with. I know you caught the attitude of the night life I grew up with and live with currently - I am sure the Vegas night life is that much more intense (I've never been there myself). I enjoy the symbolism and metaphors, some of which could be many different things. Very good poem, very good writing in general.

PS - Thanks for the review!
