My One Commandment

My One Commandment

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

Unparch this sea

of kisses, kismet,

               for your being

in my motives, complex

and your presence

              is like Moses

defiant to pontiffs, fleeing,

dry reticents

      gilding what is seen

to themselves a gold relief

beauty in masquerades

build me, instead / no regret

no slaves / compelled or bade

but choices made

                in devotion's spell

entombed, undead

a heart in spades, stone

            commandments remade / tentade

reclaimed ... in love

rebuilding

a nest / an exodus

begin again, achingly ... rhapsodies

(for it is good)

now understood ... loving me

a commandment of mercy, mercy, my

one law - for two of your eyes.

fidelity.
