FOR YOUR THOUGHTS

FOR YOUR THOUGHTS

A Poem by Butch Decatoria
"

Free verse, spur of the moment...

"

Is Freedom worth a pretty penny

why are we still hungry / still playing games of war?

Is, Is Freedom worth a pretty penny?

My country 'tis of thee

with your purple mountains' majesties

and fruitful fields of grain

     (with genetically modified seeds)

with Grand canyons and grander cities

and grandest grand-daddies

              Bohemian secret raves

cross-dressing nights

ole white hoods in hateful rites

"Just practicing my  rights as an American to voice my views.

Prove  myself - the power - that freedom affords me..."

Pretty pennies tarnish

now what?

--how to tax what these eyes doth see?

Four walls and a roof

and brick and iron bars and shrapnel

(glowing mushroom clouds)

A line of wheel chairs

where our tarnished dues / our old faithfuls

luckily

still live with such freedom

Let it ring

and put a ring on it

This fidelity is true

united we ... roll into  the VA

Dog tags have names

but a father has a face

Tell me now what does that pretty penny have to say?

(We are rich if we have choices

to be free is to give it voices)

of thee we sing

let freedom ring

Love don't cost a thing...
