TOOTH ACHE

TOOTH ACHE

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

Sound carries in this hollow room
startled myself sneezing
bouncing off four walls - off white, snow white, eggshell, faux
did say this was hollow
white  feels hollow...

and my patience is without virtue
in purgatory
if voices begin to say so
better to learn her
skill
      patience
redundant when the world outside is in a hurry
leaving me behind
am I a corpse already
in a bed-ridden hamster wheel

my disease is called lost faith
in humankind
in the so-called justice
          we patriotically patronize
our war vet fathers mommy sisters sons
Thanks a million marching
good night and good luck

I also think I may be
coming down
with a plebeian's  agoraphobic listlessness
lazy and frightened of the outside world
perhaps it's more of a loathing
     than a fear
a shame than of a symptom...

but I must try to be more
patient
as time decays my youth
and lower left molar

I'm getting the hang
of that skill (getting older)
being as one with my walls
useless to go wailing
hollow
like gunfire in the dark
(jaws clench release)
          the knife sharp piercing lessens
to an ache
distance
I'm less to appreciate

Hollow - enamel walls :
distal / mesial / lingual / buccal
occlusal - crater
from amalgam failure
as of late
I seem enamored by decay

Even if I should snap / and scream
at the top of my lungs
the world out there is still
hurrying
to be left behind

Am I extinct
since a clone carries my name
identity theft of blame
as my caries
         hollows my tooth
facsimiles & artifice wearing
my life

now ache only arrives
on the mornings I open my eyes

I've come down with something, a'ight...

the sound of patience
absconds and
caries
          a zombie's blight
virtually a corpse
'cuz pain

feels like a

hollow

waiting room...
