SUMMER SUN

SUMMER SUN

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

Cicadas piercing electric hiss
their vibrations and molten skins
summer's symbolic wit
not without its heat or lick

traffic signs and reminders' heat
sweat and sweet watermelon days
poolside conflagrations cool head and feet
lips and teeth twinkling and gay

since July is less cruel than August's suns
enjoy the fireworks and vacation months
family reunions burning ears and looser tongues
we all glisten in the heat of such fun

and so it must be true
we are the children of the golden star
we shine as bright even in the dark
we glisten and reflect each sheen and spark

energy in flesh alight without a word
love being made and not told of its worth
breath and meaning treasured names
unspoken but molten gold falling like rain

we glisten
in the light and your eyes, reflections
heaven's infinite worth
with each and every beginning / birth
there was not a word but all the words

made with you
a universe...

and on our skin, reflections
we are shining
burning up like the sun

glistening
because the day has won...
