Pyramids

Pyramids

A Poem by Butch Decatoria

Monumental monoliths

monuments of past tense

stone temples clawing Sahara suns

points the needles of ancient compass

up,   untoward and thwarted not

eyes toward the heavens awe

vast distance's guide to eons now

dotted maps of stars that teem

and stars are truly loved

when discovered by its beam

adored in wishes, if sad eyes could speak

there afloat a twinkle of a dream

in the dark--its light is seen...

claimed by mindful eyes, dubbed as property

named and kept in memory, a book,

wars requiem tales told tall

proud seat for fathers -- in history's nook

dust and skeins of past life took

death no longer to race or fear

when all stories are one

its the same sky, even from here

monuments

interwoven tapestries

infinite our flame

constellations swim

your breath given a name...

the glow is felt

the drug is fame

shining on high

   among the godly

heaven's stage

but what are you just standing there

who are you

when no one cares

I'll notice you

when you see me

monument

proof of life / one symphony

every waking moment - monumental

monoliths

your smile like starlight

your love uplifts

get what you give

a gift for a gift

even unto death, sands of time will shift

but your light aloft in flight

remains beyond mortal sight...

a grain of sand is not much wealth

but vital to have an entire beach

I see you, my grain of sand,

always in my silent reach

what your distant star can teach

the wonders of our humanity

paradise and a day: priceless

all from one tiny grain...

(What schemes but empires pay

can pyramid into a single day?)

what good is left more to say?

My child made Lego pyramids

now learning other shapes

my universe / your clay

forever, love will say

together comes the day,

nameste
