Sympathetic Lies

Sympathetic Lies

A Poem by PoeticDisarray
"

To all the people who pretend to care.

"

i see your eyes, look deep into mine
as i tell you of my recent struggles
then i hear you speak the words, “i’m sorry”
a sympathetic phrase, i’ve heard a hundred times before
and each time, i question it a little more

i see your eyes, look away from mine
as i tell you of my recent battles
again i hear you speak the words, “i’m sorry”
a sympathetic phrase, i’ve heard a thousand times before
and each time,  i question its meaning a little more

i see your eyes, they won’t look at mine
as i tell you of my recent wars
once again i hear you speak those words, “i’m sorry”
a sympathetic phrase, i’ve heard a million times before
and each time, i question its truth a little more

i don’t see your eyes, they can’t look at mine
as i tell you of my recent tragedies
i hear you speak those all too familiar words, “i’m sorry”
a sympathetic lie, i’ve heard too many times before
i’ve given up questioning
