Overdose

Overdose

A Poem by IIx Jaded x II

Submerged in a deep sea of nothingness

Steady, violent waves crashing over and under my thoughts

Looking for any sign of hope to cling on to

No longer searching the bottom of masked bottles

For answers that seem to escape a sober mind

A new poison rushing in and throughout my system

Slaughtering brain cells and scarring the liver

Vision begins to warp as bright, searing colors come into play

Time comes to a screeching halt

Marking the air with the familiar residue of burning rubber

Heartbeat and breathing races uncontrolled

Movement delayed towards destinations unclear

An uncomfortably cold tingle creeps across gaping pores

Settling in the deep recess of my hollow chest

Scared to death as I scream on the inside

Only to be granted an echo in reply

A sick mimic of my cries for help

Tomorrow has become my yesterday

And yesterday, my ancient history

With a future nowhere in sight

Facial expression gone dry

Calm and complacent

With trouble brewing just below the surface

Eyes shut to the fluorescent lights beaming overhead

An ever-constant pulse hidden away from these darkened lids

A monotonous rhythm of pumping syringes

Placing me in a perpetual state of deja vu

Bile builds in a niche in the depths of my throat

Blood seeps into every corner of my lungs

Chaos conquers all that rests in between

The stench of sterility envelops me

Gasping for air and losing vitality

I gurgle my last goodbye

As I slip in and out of consciousness

Unwillingly, I surrender myself to this untimely fate
