The Boat

The Boat

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The Boat

The wind blows,

The ocean’s waves are tossed.

Storms rage,

Counting not the lost

Souls are running

This way and that to be filled.

Seeking something

To be instilled.

The boat sails

Through choppy waters.

Maintaining course,

And never falters.

We reach and grab

Anything to keep us afloat.

Flailing about,

We can’t hold.

Calling out

In dreaded fear of the sea.

Looking for a lighthouse

To rescue from the deep.

Trying to help ourselves

Only leads to drowning instead.

Waves beat us down

As they go over our heads.

Crying out loud,

We need to know we’re not alone.

For though waves crash,

Jesus is the boat.
