As I Come to Be

As I Come to Be

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

As I Come to Be

I dare myself to show up

And make the most of this life.

To break down walls

That were raised high.

To conquer the unconquered,

Laying down fears that so entangle me.

Wanting to be what it takes,

As I come to be.

Let me listen not,

Let me pay no attention to naysayers.

May my heart open--

Every layer.

This soul of mine--

It longs to soar through, freely.

Making it the best I can,

As I come to be.

Up, up up,

Climbing these jagged stones.

I can’t lose my grip now,

My life is not my own.

Giving it away

Every minute, every hour indeed…

My love to the ones I love,

This is how I come to be.
