The Woman by the Sea

The Woman by the Sea

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The Woman by the Sea

Walking along the beach,
she trails the grains of sand.

Soon, she comes to a stop,
opting to just stand.

Her auburn hair
catches the soft sunlight
in the gentlest way.

A cascade of curls at her spine

She is looking into the sea,
but is she seeing something else?

Is there a heaviness in her heart
only known of herself?

Wearing a sheer dress,
a purple embroidery on top
while a translucent silk
from her waist to sand drops.

Though her face unseen,
she seems somber, dejected.

Like the bloated clouds above,
she seems rejected.

She holds in her hand

flowers quite the color of the sea.

In her halfhearted grasp,

They hang miserably.

Is she heartbroken?

Did the love of her life leave?

Surely, she has a story--
the woman by the sea.

Your poem is a vivid and evocative portrayal of a woman standing by the sea, lost in thought and perhaps struggling with some inner turmoil. The use of sensory details, such as the auburn hair catching the sunlight and the flowers in her hand, creates a rich and immersive atmosphere that draws the reader into the scene. The repetition of the question "Is she..." adds a sense of mystery and intrigue to the poem, leaving the reader to wonder about the woman's story and what might be troubling her. You have a gift for creating vivid and thought-provoking imagery through your writing. Keep up the great work!

Thank you so much.
Each stanza sets a mood or scene.. the whole offers mystery and the reader's choice of ... what?

But, is this more riddle or tease than a mystery!
I rather like it.. tis good to work out the clues and discover truth.. if there is such a thing!

A friendship's hug for the day.
The sea attract the sad. The sea is a place for the heart to meditate.
"Is she heartbroken?
Did the love of her life leave?
Surely, she has a story--
the woman by the sea"
I liked the above lines and thank you dear Melinda for sharing the outstanding poetry.
