Joseph's Calling

Joseph's Calling

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Joseph’s Calling

Leading them to a place

To find no room in the inn.

Did he feel anxious, wanting

To care for Mary and the babe within?

Having traveled for miles

To be rejected from shelter.

Where would they go?

Where would they find anything better?

Soon they came upon a place.

Though lowly, it would suffice.

Mary found a spot to finally rest
As he tried to console his wife.

From the time he found she was with child,

To that moment, he must’ve been beside himself.

Recalling the angel who had appeared to him,

Had he fully known his great wealth?

The star in the night sky

Still shone for him to see.

Did he stare at its shine

As he waited for the Son most holy?

When the baby called Jesus was born,

Joseph adopted Him as his own.

Knowing the Creator had chosen him

To help nurture Christ onward to His Throne.
