Hoppy Hops Happily

Hoppy Hops Happily

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Hoppy Hops Happily

In the tall grassy hills,

Hoppy hops along.

Exploring the vast terrain

In which he’s ever among.

One day Hoppy finds a stream.

Creeping closer to inspect,

Slowly he makes his way

Until he is at the water’s edge.

Shyly he peers into

The slow-moving stream,

And sees a bunny looking at him.

Hoppy is happy with what he sees.

When he turns his head,

So too, does his newfound friend.

When Hoppy hops along the side,

So too, does his bunny pal tread.

Hoppy is happy to have someone

To hop around with.

He’ll never be alone now

That he has a friendship to cherish,

Hopping along, something is amiss

When Hoppy’s friend no longer follows.

For the stream had come to an end

And he feels sorrow.

He starts to turn back

To find his dear friend in his track.

But then realizes the bunny is he.

His soul’s friend with him, Hoppy hops happily!
