Heart of Thanksgiving

Heart of Thanksgiving

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Heart of Thanksgiving

Hearts full of blessings to overflowing,

Counting the good which outweigh the bad times.

Thankful hearts magnify the true giver

Of every good and faithful thing acquired.

Loved ones flock together to spend sweet time,

Catching up on lost hugs and missed kisses.

Gathered around the table once again,

Cheerful banter over delicious food.

Hearts are mended in being together,

Lighter with family’s pure love for each one.

Hand in hand, heads do reverently bow,

Thanking the Lord for more than such good food.

Filled with turkey and the sweetest desserts,

Satisfied and reclining in easy chairs.

Delightful excitement for what comes next,

Children eager for the special visitor.

Hearts full of memories of ones not here,

Sad, but thankful to reunite someday.

A smile ultimately sneaks past sorrow,

Thankful for the years they were among us.
