The House Upon a HillA Poem by Melinda McQueenThe House Upon a Hill (Matthew 5:16)
The
house upon a hill, Snakelike
vines grew up its faded bricks,
Always
the center of attention having
been up on the hill
As
far as anyone knew, Which had all pondering upon seeing a light in the window that shone for miles.
Sometimes
flickering, The
light, always burning,
All
had theories Perhaps
someone had broken in
However,
as days turned into months, There for all to see, ev’ry woman with her fellow
Seemingly invisible to the world, a little old lady sat in her chair. She
was not alone
The
house upon a hill, For the True Vine shone His Light for all to see.
