Never a Good Time to Say Goodbye

Never a Good Time to Say Goodbye

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Never a Good Time to Say Goodbye

The day was full of sunshine
and I was sitting in the drive
when a mother and son was walking by.

We greeted each other, “Hi”.

“It’s such a pretty day.” she said,
and I nodded my agree.

Though the boy looked eight or nine,
his mother held tight his hand, to lead.

“Bye.” I said to him,
then, he was adamant in saying “No!”

I was quite surprised by his reaction,

I had clearly said something wrong.

“He doesn’t like saying ‘bye’.”
his mother said with a laugh.

“Me neither!” I smiled,
as they went along their trek.

Though it’s been years,

I still remember the encounter.

Saying goodbye is never fun,
it’s quite a downer.

I’ve had to say goodbye
throughout my life
in the most permanent way…
when my tears refused to hide.

A lesson to remind me
had been brought by the little guy.

It’s much better to say, “See you later.”
as it’s never a good time to say Goodbye.

I agree dear Melinda.

I hate goodbye too. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

Thanks for reading! I appreciate you.
I know the depth of that sorrow in a permanant goodbye. Maybe that childish saying of, "See you later aligator, in a while crocodile) is a much happier way of leaving someone. Enjoyed the read Melinda.
