Love on Swan Lake

Love on Swan Lake

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Love On Swan Lake

The boat bobbed with each wave,

a soothing effort it gave.

He had a surprise,
he’d told her, while sparkles danced in her eyes.

Though she tried to guess,
he wouldn’t budge, not even at her mocked distress.

“Come on… tell me!”

“It’s a surprise… just wait… you’ll see!”

Feigning a sad face,
“So where is this place?”

“We’re almost there.” he said,
while she looked ahead.

She had to admit, it was a nice day to be out,
beautiful blue sky, not a single cloud.

Abandoning her inquiries,
she soaked in all the lovely scenes.

Soon, the two made their destination,

and the boat was stationed.

Placing her hands over her mouth,
stunned, no word could come out.

Her eyes panning the lake,
but on little water did they lay.

For all around were white swans galore,
and a smile her face wore.

“How beautiful!” she managed to say,
as her hand in his, he placed.

“You are beautiful, Ruthie.

Will you marry me?”

Tears filled her eyes
as she realized this was quite a surprise.

“Yes, I’ll marry you!”

He then, took her into his arms true.

Her hand began to shake
when with a ring, he proposed love on Swan Lake.

Beautiful and romantic setting for a marriage proposal. Nicely narrated Melinda. I just adore swans, they are incredibly graceful.
