Through the Looking Glass

Through the Looking Glass

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Through the Looking Glass

Unsure of what she saw,
or who she was after all.

There was so much she wanted to do;

to herself be true.

Eyes of the deepest brown,
her cheeks wanted to be more round.

Those same eyes began to sag,

looking through the looking glass.

Even so, it was the inside
she wanted to find.

To spill herself out--
to remove all self-doubt.

Piercing her heart
was a long-lasting scar.

Ready was she to look beyond her past,
looking through the looking glass.

Soon, the tears she’d long held,
silently, but boldly fell.

She finally found
that her strength was more than pounds.

A smile curled her lips
as she placed hands on her meager hips…
so too, did the woman who smiled back,
through the looking glass.

Hardest thing to do dear Melinda. Is like ourselves.
"A smile curled her lips
as she placed hands on her meager hips…
so too, did the woman who smiled back,
through the looking glass."
I did love the above lines and thank you dear Melinda for sharing the amazing poetry.
