The Diamond Ring with Angel Wings

The Diamond Ring with Angel Wings

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The Diamond Ring with Angel Wings

It lived in jewelry box,
from a long time ago.

A memory ever there
for her to hold.

It’s been in her possession
ever since it was given to her that day--

the day she would always carry

inside her heart, ever to stay.

For like the jewelry box,

her heart held the memory.

Every now and then,
she’d set the ring free.

It was a beauty,
diamonds galore sat in a ring.

Surrounding the base
were angelic wings.

She smiled down at it now.

It still means the world,

as it reminds her of him,
and when she was his girl.

She always wished
that more could have sprung
from that ring,
but for him, the angels’ bells rung.

Though he’s been gone many years
and life has aged her hands, and slowly her mind,
his memory still came to her

when she opened her jewelry box and saw its delight.

She’s had a great life,

blessed beyond measure to anything.

But still, she finds herself basking in memories

attached to the diamond ring with angel wings.

Keepsakes can be so precious, bringing back memories of past times, younger years and loved ones who have departed this plane. Nicely narrated and touching story line Melinda.
