Strawberry Time

Strawberry Time

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Strawberry Time

Oh, the taste of summer,

The sun beams without mercy.

Beaches and lakes swarmed

By vacationers, sun-ready.

Its sweetness remembered,

Once biting into its flavor.

The coolness exploding,

Strawberry time beholding.

Color of red, like a blossom in the hand,

Chilled to the touch, a balm to the parched mouth.

A favorite of summertime,

Next to watermelon, no doubt.

Picked in plumped finest,

Indulged as a whole,

Or cut into stationery wheels…

Strawberry time served in bowls.

Lovers feeding one another

Drizzled or dipped in chocolate sweet.

An act of love--

A mini retreat.

What a fun pleasure--

What a delight--

To enjoy a taste of

Strawberry Time!

Tis 01.11, Monday early and am drooling, dribbling and salivating at the same time, Meliinda!! Your poem contains so many phrases that personify the meaning a a strawberry... truly does.

' Picked in plumped finest, - Indulged as a whole, - Or cut into stationery wheels… - Strawberry time served in bowls. Yes, please. A wonderful verse as all the others are. Thank you for sharing.. next time.. raspberries?! :)

My pleasure dear Melinda and you are welcome.
ohhhhhhh yeah! your poem has me salivating, McQueen! ;) Strawberry plants in me garden are going crazy this year ... it is their second year and are shooting so many runners I am going to have to cut the back. I harvested their fruit a couple weeks ago and thought they were done but lo and behold, i am getting a second harvest coming up. They are a treat no doubt! The world needs something to shout about eh!? Summer and Strawberries are the perfect rousing cheer says i! ;)
