The Black DressA Poem by Melinda McQueen
The Black Dress
It hung on its hanger of her closet door. Seeming to stare at her, awaiting to adore.
The day slow in arriving-- the day which excited her, making her smile, yet, played her nerves.
The prom was soon. Though a Senior in high school, this would be her first dance. her stomach certainly knew the butterfly rule.
Never having a date, or a boyfriend, for that matter. Never the girl a boy would ask out, so, she felt those butterflies gather.
For she had a date to the prom; her friend agreed to be her escort. On cloud nine, she couldn’t believe the night would be her grand resort.
Soon he was in her living-room, and he stood at her entrance in his best. At least for one night, she’d be like the others… at the prom… in the black dress.
