The Stoic PoetA Poem by Melinda McQueen
The Stoic Poet
There once lived a man who wanted to try his hand at writing poetry; wanting his words set free. Sitting down, he proceeded to write by soft candle light. Though he tried, a rhyme he could not find. Not a man to show emotion, to not allow his feelings devotion. Patient, he may be described, but not when it came to words he wanted to write. People define him as stoic, which was exactly why he wanted to be a poet. He indeed had feelings which had gone unknown-- feelings which needed expressed, told. So, finally a dam broke, and he wrote and wrote until his passions began to unfold. For the first time, his stored emotions found their rhyme. Writing more and more, expelling all the love, sadness and pain his heart wore. He wondered if people would believe he’d always had these words up his sleeve. Knowing his found wealth was inside himself. He would never allow any to read his words; they were becoming his sword… granting him freedom to feel-- to know his emotions were real. Even though he may never show it, he was the stoic poet.
