In the Flower Garden

In the Flower Garden

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

In the Flower Garden

The soft scent danced in the breeze--

a scent which ushered in memories.

It’s been a long time

since she’s come to this place to unwind.

She used to come here often,

but time and work flew in.

She remembers the days

when they walked through the flowers.

It held a certain power.

Or was it him?

He had brought her here on a whim,

he’d had a surprise for her, he’d said.

Blindfolded she was led,

once removed, her eyes feasted

on flowers of every color.

She was in wonder.

The beauty so complete she could barely speak.

Though over time, this was their favorite place to be;

they would have amazing talks

along their flower laden walks.

He was her love, and she was his,

though it was him she missed.

No matter how she wanted him to stay,

life had the final say.

She wonders what her life would have been like

if he could have been by her side.

Now, she comes here when the world becomes too much,

to visit his memory, to somehow touch.

Her heart will always harken

to the memories in the flower garden.

Thats sad, reminds me of a poem I wrote years ago. Makes me think of my mom and dad out in the back yard tending her flowers they'd sit together. They are alive but my dad had a stroke and he's wheelchair bound right now and she's so busy caring for him. Any way , loved your poem

This is well done. And how appropriate for this spring time. I love being outside! The weather here and the long winter makes summer time so special.
