The Magnificent ButterflyA Poem by Melinda McQueenI had this experience years ago. I'm sure I wrote about it then, but now i decided to write about it again. This time in free-style form.
The Magnificent Butterfly
The colorful butterfly was flying about, When it stopped to stay awhile with me. I was out for a stroll in the afternoon sunshine, And it came to perch on my chair. It stayed for the longest time. I refrained from moving so it would not leave, As I quite enjoyed its company. Admiring its many colors, I watched as its wings moved gently. Still, it did not move. I then had a thought… What if I begin to move? Would it move too? Surely this magnificent butterfly would fly high, Just as it was created to. For wonderment’s sake, I started rolling along, expecting it to fly away To anywhere it pleased. But much to my surprise, My tiny passenger was along for the ride. I wondered why it chose to stay with me When it could soar the open sky. Then, I had a clear thought, as though God were speaking to me. This is what He said: “My child, I knew you were extra lonely today, So, I sent my butterfly to tell you that you’re never alone… I’m here.” We finished the stroll… God’s creature and I. I’m guessing it was called to another assignment, Because just as suddenly as it had come, The magnificent butterfly flew away.
