Entertaining Angels

Entertaining Angels

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Entertaining Angels
Hebrews 13:2

A smile, a wave,

A warm “Hello”.

A helpful word to sustain,

A lifter of a head hung low.

Everyone you meet

Has a special force.

A reason to greet;

Entertaining angels along your course.

The homeless man walking the road,

Who longs for eye contact.

The girl in the grocery store who’s trying to hold on…

Both to her tears and the baby on her back.

The stories many,

Hurting souls desperate to be noticed.

So many in need;

Entertaining angels cherished.

Always have a ready smile,

Helpful words that minister,

Feet that go the extra mile,

And a soft reply even to the stern.

For you never know with whom you speak,

So be quick to listen and slow to anger.

Who knows… you just may be

Someone’s entertaining angel.

Melinda, The line that really touched me is the one that states, "...the homeless man walking the road, who longs for eye contact...!" I grew up in an urban area in which the homeless numbered many. I would not only make eye contact (which they crave to make them feel human) but engage in conversation. Instead of giving them money I would take them into Mickey D's and buy them a meal. Being charitable in such an instant costs but a few bucks; it made them feel a little more valued. Did I erase their whole problem? Of course not but if it made them feel better for a day I felt as if I'd done okay...not great, but okay. Lovely write, Melinda! take care...dan

...And they probably remembered you long after. :) A little kindness goes a long way.
Great wisdom in your words.

Better to lead with a smile and kindness/concern. Would be a better world. Thank you Melinda for sharing your amazing poetry.

You are welcome Melinda.
Melinda, you've made a great point, that sometimes just the littlest acknowledgment, can change a person's day and perhaps the course of their life. Most of the time we don't know the impact we have on someone.
