Tomorrow's Treasures

Tomorrow's Treasures

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Tomorrow’s Treasures

Why are you so sad?
Life has too much fun to be had,

For there’s a spark

Awaiting to be ignited in your heart.

I know you feel like giving up

On the dreams you’ve dreamt of…

Feeling it has been a waste

Just to contemplate.

Looking back at the road you’ve journeyed,

Do you like what you see?

You find yourself wondering what it would have been like

If you had walked the opposite side.

Rain waters soak you to the core

Until you are too heavy to take any more.

Weighed down by disappointment and grief,

You long for relief.

I close my eyes

And feel my chest rise…

Then, with tears upon my face,

I hear something inside me say…

Cast your eyes not down,

Nor look back, for only in memories is Yesterday found,

But look up ahead with anticipated pleasure

Of Tomorrow’s Treasures.

This is bursting with positive vibes. And not just pop mantra stuff. It is deep and well meaning. I really like the verse lines,
"Rain waters soak you to the core
Until you are too heavy to take any more."

The imagery is perfection.

As always an impeccable write, Melinda.

Wow, this piece is really strong. The feelings, disguised as props, are so richly written that the poem grabs the reader (me) early on and holds on forever. Your rhymes are right on point, your imagery and your writing style really combine so well to make this such a strong write.
I am saving this to my library favorites, so thank you for that. take care...dan
