The Opened Jar

The Opened Jar

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The glass jar sat open for years

On a dusty shelf.

Nothing touched it except a shaft of sun which peered

Through stained curtains slightly blown adrift.

Barren and empty

It sat alone.

Desiring to have need,

The opened jar was in its home.

Though it is cracked

And discolored,

It is still a vessel wanting to bask

In God’s favor.

It waits the day

When a stronger wind makes the curtains part,

And more of the sun comes its way.

The opened jar wants out of the dark.

Realizing it hadn’t a lid,

It was open to receive.

Nothing was hid…

Everything was to be sought in belief.

A breeze came through,

Parting the stained curtains in a contrast stark.

For God remains true

In the life of the opened jar.

Melinda, I didn't know that God was concerned about inanimate objects, like a jar; perhaps that is why I tell you that I am not qualified to comment on any matter concerning or tied to religion or religious beliefs. The poem was well written. take care...dan

I see the jar as select few good people
that no one knows about
no one knows how to reach that shelf
but that jar has so much
and it needs no lid
it gives light
reflects and is a vessel of love
through god

He's patiently waiting. :)
I am willing to bet, there is more than just a little dis colorization in that open jar. I can imagine a dead bug or too, certainly a dust colony. perhaps a spider w/web, maybe even a wasp nest, so, approach with wariness if not a little dread.

Yep you are right!
You left so much unsaid in this gem. We all are empty. needing Him to come into our hearts and fill us up. I love this one Honey. Valentine
