The True American Dream

The True American Dream

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Founded by faith,

Our forefathers proclaimed

The United States

A place where God reigned.

People of every race flock here

In search of a better life.

To reach while defying fear,

The American dream in sight.

The fighting soldiers’ sweat, blood and tears,

Slain bodies and minds

Helped build this place through the years.

Faith did not hide.

The pursuit of freedom in their hands,

The prayer to be free

In their homeland.

The American dream, the united heart’s plea.

Sadly, hatred still rages

As evil runs rampant, full speed.
Hope through the ages

Still to believe.

Equal rights for all

Is the claim under the Red, White and Blue.

Waving in the breeze of an answered call,

Awaiting the human race’s truth.

When shall we know

The meaning of peace?

When will we bestow

The True American Dream?
