You Were Here

You Were Here

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

Amazingly you came into my life

On love’s roaring tide.

It didn’t take long

Before your love was my song.

Spreading your net,

It was a safety I had never met.

Filling my days with cheer,

You were here.

The brush of love’s wings

Touched my heart in all things.

For you opened this heart of mine

When you allowed your love to reside.

Like a piercing that can never be whole again,

Your love has penetrated my soul without end.

Your love ever stays and so will this pain never heal,
You were here.

Water to a wilted flower,

Your love bestowed the power

To make my heart bloom.

Oh how your love made me move!

Though you had to go,

In my heart there’s still a glow.

Your love ever near,

I thank God you are here.

"Like a piercing that can never be whole again,

Each person we let into our lives touches us in ways no others can. Everyone leaves their mark and there's no healing those. Beautiful comparison and a lovely write.
