In Her DreamsA Poem by Melinda McQueenMemories remain in the heart.Tears wet her cheeks As she recalls a time of old. Gentle is the release And sweet are the memories she holds. A life gone by Fills her heart’s vision. She bothers not to dry her eyes, For she’s on a mission. Though many years have passed, She searches to remember with fondness. Time has a way in not holding back, Even though, she knows she is blessed. Images fade in and out, And she can barely make them out with clarity. Trying hard to remember the sights and sounds, She wishes to be free. Having had a long life, Her inner heart holds peace. For sixty-five years she had been a wife To a man she now sees only in her dreams. She’s dancing in the rain, She’s holding her babies. She’s folding her hands to pray, She’s decorating the Christmas Tree. In her dreams she is with him once more, Holding him in her heart. In her dreams her love is forever stored, © 2013 Melinda McQueen |
