Here And Now

Here And Now

A Poem by Stanley R. Teater
"

Love Lost

"

I look upon her face so fair, and smile.

Nature’s perfect canvas. Those lips and eyes,

They sing to my heart and my soul, but while

I celebrate I hear a voice wise.

It whispers, reminding me that all things

On earth are heaven sent and racing by

With the speed of mighty eagles on wings.

“So love her here and now, not asking why

The troubled dawn might crack your perfect dream.

This time, now, is all that you have to live.

So love with all the heart that you would seem

To have. Waste not one thing that you can give.”

So I grab the moment and hold on tight,

Before the here and now goes out of sight.

But then I look upon her face and see

A wistful wish for what can never be.

Mourn not for me. I had my here and now.

And I’ll have another. Someday. Somehow.

Very well written. The love and tenderness the individual seems to feel towards the other seems gentle, and pure.

Pleasurable read, looking forward to reading more of your work.

This is a good poem with a profound message ... all we have is the here and now because the future isn't promised. Reminds me of a quote by Siddharta Guatama (the Buddha) : "If you are troubled, your mind is in the past. If you are anxious, your mind is in the future. If you are at peace, your mind is in the present." That quote has had a profound impact on my life.

Along with the message, I enjoyed how much attention you paid to structure. Every line (that I counted) had ten syllables, except line four. In that line, I think you meant to write "I celebrate I hear a voice SO wise" ~ the word 'so' makes it read better, in my opinion.

I second this!
Wise words shared in the poetry.
"So I grab the moment and hold on tight,
Before the here and now goes out of sight."
The above lines. The best way to live. Enjoy the day and hope for many more. Thank you Stanley for sharing the excellent poetry.

Yes we must live in the here and now. Tomorrow is not guaranteed and we mustn't dwell on the past or it will consume us. I loved this poem.

Powerfully written and very connectable, I particularly liked the sudden shift at the end. One of the most painful things to experience and endure is a love (and future with it) lost. Great writing.

Very well written, romantic but ends sad. Life goes on anyway...doesn't it? Valentine
