Two HeartsA Poem by Stanley R. TeaterListen to the harvest moon. Two hearts looked up and saw the harvest moon. Two hearts, flotsam on the sea of life. Lost. They beat as one, these hearts, aching for love. Had they but met, face to face in life’s net, Their love might have flown on wings of a dove. Up, up they could have soared into the night Flying up to bathe in the golden light Of a harvest moon, so full and so bright. The harvest moon looked down and saw two hearts, Two hearts whose love might warm the coldest night. A great love that would never be, unless Two hearts could risk the pain and venture forth. “Stare not at me,” called out the harvest moon. “Waste not your time with tears of woe. Go out and seek the love of which you dream.” Two hearts looked up and saw the harvest moon. Two hearts went out their doors in search of love, A love they feared might never be. And yet….. © 2016 Stanley R. Teater All rights
