When I was young

I heard the call

Of places not home.

 

The cities east,

The cities west,

So much to see,

So much to do.

 

From coast to coast,

And dream to dream,

I sold my soul,

For I heard the call

Of places not home.

 

I saw the heights,

I felt the lows.

The smiles were warm,

But cooled so soon.

Still… I was young

And heard the call

Of places not home.

 

So many miles to go,

So much more to learn,

But, oh, so little time.

When I was young

I heard the call

Of places not home.

 

Now I am old

And places not home

Don’t talk to me.

I am done, spent,

And home is on my mind.

 

So hear me, Lord,

When my tale is fully told,

And you call my name,

Home’s where I’ll be.

Home again. At last.
