About Gun Control

“Will I be the next?”

Possibly.

“How many more?”

Depends.

“Guns need to be banned!”

Maybe.

“The NRA needs to be shut down!”

Again, maybe.

But an object isn’t the problem.

An object can’t think for itself.

An object can’t do things without an operator.

An object can’t carry out a life sentence.

“They were bullied.”

Yes, they may have been.

“They came from a broken home.”

They probably did.

“They are just a kid.”

No, they are not, 18 is not a child.

If they were bullied,

Where were the people to help before?

If they  came from a broken home,

Why is that normal?

If they are just a kid,

Why did they have those resources?

A gun may hurt the people,

It may kill the people.

But the gun can’t do anything,

Not without someone behind it.

The person behind it is not right-minded.

The person behind it was messed up.

The person behind it had issues.

The person behind it was mentally ill.

The person behind it was probably like everyone else.

The person behind it needed help.

What does this say?

Guns are an issue

Not to be completely blamed.

Other things need to be pondered,

Such as the fact,

That we as America put trust into

White, straight, males,

But they are the ones who end up killing most.

They are seen as strong,

Without mental struggle,

But nobody is that strong.

Yes guns are just one small problem of this issue . But I think more dangerous is culture of this land . Take justice to your own hands . Violence like easy solutions for all problems. But just take look on Canada I r Europe there is not too much killing like here in land of freedom. After massacre at Montreal polytechnique faculty Canada start make new gun law. At Europe it's quiet more difficult get gun. It's not solution but it's quiet more hard to kill man with knife. By the way at UK you cannot carry even knife at your pocket. But I think problem is more cultural . This land was build on violence and killing. And how you change that. This right on self defence it's from 19 century and you try suggest are we still living in 19 century. About mental healthy issues this people are mostly victims of violence they predators. That's actually more belong to 19,century then 21 first century. I think what we can do not just say no guns but also no to violence like easy solution to anything.

I do see an issue in gun control - they are giving these weapons to "children" as they say, or mentally ill people. Also you can look at most of the shooters, straight, white, males. These men are our government, they are seen as powerful, so the way society views them can mess with them. Mental health is a big issue because of the stigma, it is not to be completely blamed, but the US should have more available resources to those who need them.

I worked in mental health for 27 years and there is no doubt in my mind that people who have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder should be restricted from having guns. I can go with most of the proposed changes people are asking for, though a full ban on assault rifles makes me wary. People have tried to ban alcohol, drugs, pornography and abortion without success, often only making the problem worse. I fear a ban on guns might create a black market, with a resultant complete loss of control.

The meaning of the line "If they came from a broken home" means that a lot of trial against the shooters and the excuses why they did what they did were that they didn't have a good home life. Their parents may have neglected them, abused them, or they received that treatment from friends, other adults, and/or other family.
