Chapter 6

A Chapter by Znikbew

Shay Turner. When Shay turned up at that castle, she seemed just like any normal screwed up miad that was picked up off of the streets; a girl with personal issues. I never would have guessed in a hundred years what type of person she actually was.

When I finally came to, I found myself lying on my back and Shay’s face staring down at me, an annoyed look upon her face. But unlike before, her skin seemed thick and scaly, the shade of it bright red. Two gnarly horns stuck out from the sides of her head. The only way I could tell that it was her was that same disgusted look twisted upon her face that she had whenever she was tired of life.

“That human form on her disgusts me,” she snarled, showing two sharp canines. Behind her, I heard another low growl.

“Give it time, Shay,” a familiar male’s voice hissed. “She won’t remember everything right away.” Shay shook her head,  the disgusted look still glued on her face.

“I don’t understand why it could take so long,” she said. “It’s like she had forgotten everything.”

“Give it time,” the guy repeated.

Slowly, I pulled myself up off of  the ground and into a sitting position, looking around hesitantly, trying to remember what had just happened. Everything seemed fuzzy.

Hunter stood in a dark corner of the room, arms crossed across his chest. He stared coldly at Shay with dead blue eyes. He removed his cold gaze from her and over to me, and his face quickly softened to a gentle smile.

“You’re awake,” he said, his voice weary. I eyed him cautiously, not really sure what happened. ...Who was he again??

Just then, the memories of earlier came rushing back to me and my eyes widened. That’s right… He was in the graveyard with me. But, didn’t he…

My face flushed almost immediately when I remembered how he slowly pressed his lips up to mine. I quickly threw my hands up to my mouth, glaring at him. He chuckled slightly in amusement.

I looked around me cautiously and slowly climbed to my feet, my head spinning. Shay held out her hand, looking at me with worry.

“Your Highness…” she whispered. “Are you alright?”

I shoved her hand away, shaking my head.

“Highness?” I asked, head still reeling. Shay retracted her hand, watching me in silence as I tried to figure everything out.

“Where… where am I?” I was finally able to spit out.

“You’re underneath,” Shay replied.

“Underneath?” I asked. Shay sighed.

“You don’t seem fully awake yet,” she stated.

“Yeah…”

I paused.

“What happened to Arielle and Kelsey? Are they alright?”

Shay smirked. “Yeah, those humans couldn’t make it,” she snickered. “I’m so sorry for your loss.” I felt something inside me break.

“Couldn’t… Make it?” I asked weakly.

Shay shrugged. “They were weaklings anyway,” she told me.

“What the hell would you know?” I snapped. “They were my frien-”

“What do you actually know about them?” Hunter interrupted.

“...Know about them?” I felt furious. “They were like FAMILY to me! I knew them my entire life!”

“What do you actually know about them?” Hunter repeated.

I opened my mouth to reply, but then stopped. That’s strange… I can’t recall anything about them before a few months ago. I felt stumped.

“I… I can’t remember…” I stammered. Hunter nodded.

“Exactly,” he informed me. “That’s because your whole relationship was fake.” I stayed quiet, confused. “You were sent up there as a completely different person. And by doing this, you’ve lost most of your memories.”

I sighed. “Okay, fine,” I said. “Let’s just say that all of this WAS true… then why did I leave this MAGNIFICENT place?”

Hunter blinked. “To end all of humanity, of course.”
