Because...

Because...

A Story by H.J.Y.
"

I just wrote this for fun as i was feeling bored in class. What pain is so great that you would take your own life to be rid of it?

"
Hayley stood at the edge of the cliff, staring into the setting sun, it's orange brilliance a fitting picture that she chose to be her last. Her eyes did not let out a single drop of water. Her face was expressionless, matching the emptiness present in her eyes. She blinked as the wind suddenly howled in her face, as if screaming at her not to do what she was about to do. But, the wind did not know that this was all in vain; nothing was going to stop her now " not when she had made up her mind. A voice called out from behind Hayley and she did not have to turn to know who it was. Brad's footsteps approached her and she stiffened.
"Don't come any closer. Stay away! Stay Away!" her own trembling voice shocked her. She tightened her fist and shuffled a little closer to the edge.
"Hayley…." Brad's voice sounded weak, almost begging; he'd never sounded like that before. "It's not your fault. You can't control these things. They happen."
Hayley turned to face him, her eyes shiny from the tears hanging to the edge of her bottom eyelid.
"HAPPEN?! HAPPEN?! JUST… HAPPEN?! YES, EVERYDAY, A CHILD JUST DIES BECAUSE…. BECAUSE… because…" Her voice was lost in a sea of silent sobs. She held her hands to her heart, crouching and slowly blinked the tears away. She turned to face the slowly setting sun.
"Hayley! Hayley!"
She closed her eyes and focused on the sound of the swirling and crashing waters; they drowned out Brad's voice. The sound of the waters were, in a way, calming and she could feel a sense of warmth throughout her body knowing that soon, she wouldn't have to live in a world of pain and anguish anymore - she was finally going to be happy. For the first time in many years, a smile shone on Hayley's face and she fell; fell into the cold water. As she sunk, she opened her eyes and saw the light filtering through and she unconsciously reached her hand out as if trying to catch it and carry it with her as she drifted off into bliss.
