Chapter 2: The First JobA Chapter by Hannavas R.The second chapter of The Story of Rosie. dun dun dun! XDRosie's long, blonde, beautiful hair was pulled back into a braid with a ring hooped into the last of it. Her blue eyes showed a hint a green. She was in a good mood today. She was wearing her black cloak that went down to her ankles and was surely concealing weapons, navy blue boots, and matching warrior armor underneath. We were staying in a two bedroom hotel in a small town, waiting for a rather important job and after that quietly passing through the town. Rosie was sitting on a wooden chair looking out the one window in the room, and I was sitting on the bed having just woke up. On the table was bread, a jar of half empty honey, and strawberry jam, I helped myself to it after pulling up my trousers. Rosie didn't say a word to me as I ate next to her, yet continued looking out the window until her eyebrow lifted and she stood up and walked out of the room. I fallowed her, eating my jellied toast in one hand and grabbing for my sword and cloak in with the other. I devoured the last bite before I closed the door and then proceeding to walk down the hall while I strapped the sword to my back and put the cloak on and put the hood up concealing most of my red hair and eyes. As we left the small inn we rounded the corner of the building and kept walking. I've never seen Rosie so quiet before. Rosie had a small bounce in her step which made her braid bob a bit and she had a natural sway to her hips which made the braid sway. It was interesting enough to watch when I didn't have anything better to do. After 15 minutes of walking along empty ally ways Rosie walked under a small black tarp hidden well in the maze of the ally ways and knocked on the door 5 times at a certain time frequency. Afterward the door opened to reveal solid blackness, Rosie walked in. “How did you find this f*****g place?” I asked her in a quiet voice. “Stay,” she said sternly. What the hell kind of answer is that and who does she think I am, her dog. For f**k sakes. I stood there and waited and waited before I finally leaned against the wall, letting my shoes dig into the mud from last nights rain. I waited an hour before she came out. “We have a ball to attend in Highland in 2 weeks times, apparently the grand duke has an important job for us,” she said as we walked away, “but more importantly we have a job tonight, the source isn't the most reliable but even if their information was wrong we will still be payed a pretty penny,” she kept her voice low, knowing that walls have ears. “First off, Highland is a 3 week travel by foot. Second, why don't you ever take me in when we get jobs here? And lastly, what kind of job is it?” She let out a short sigh “After this payment we'll be able to afford a horse, and you know that Julius doesn't like you, he's jealous that I turned you and deny turning him,” she let out a chuckle, “if only he knew the whole story. Finally, the job consist of a giant wolf terrorizing a village not to far from here. Julius said that the messenger said that the wolf was possessed by an angel but more importantly had some sort of glow around it. If that glow is what I think it is we'll be one step closer to my goal. Also after we kill the beast the messenger will pay us there, then we can buy a horse, and be on our way to Highlander.” It was a lot of information to take in, “I see.” A faint smile appeared on her lips for a moment before disappearing, “I'm sorry about the silence earlier, I was focusing on the path Julius was writing in my mind.” I sigh, “His talent is very unique.” She gave a quick, quiet giggle, “Visual communications actually used to be a lot more common, not so much anymore, which is why I believe Julius to be over 100 years old.” “You really think that?” “Yes.” We didn't much else the rest of the way. By the time we made it out of the ally way it wasn't long before we were surrounded by tree's, the animals, the thieves and killers in it. We evaded several traps, including a pit fall, and hidden wires. The people in the forest were annoying. Finally a small boy stepped out with a blunt knife and demanded our belongings, his guild stood behind him, none of them could have been older than twelve. Rosie's eyebrows narrowed and s he drew her sword. The children backed up there faces not so sure. I pulled down my hood revealing my blood red hair and stern crimson eyes and they ran off. Rosie looked at me and took a deep breath before putting her sword away. We continued walking until we came across a stream got a few drinks and continued walking a long the stream which lead to a river which led a path which led to a massive wheat field and then a small village. Wheat fields were often a sign that the town had a god or goddess of some sort watching over them. It was strange to see one here considering there weren't more than 200 people here. “We're here,” I said, wanting something to say. “No s**t,” she said cruelly. I looked up at her and her eyes had turned black, she was pissed. I looked in her general direction and I could see why. Blood, some fresh some old was the paint to every house, every door, ever road. Bodies of children, adults, and animals filled the road. All the heads were gone. From behind us a wolf growled before it jumped up at us. I drew my sword while it was still in the air and slashed off its head with one stroke. I looked down at the wolf, it was young. “What could be causing this?” I turned back to Rosie as I asked. Her eyes were staring at something. “I don't know, but look at the windows,” all of the windows were boarded up except one, and from the inside of it was two yellows and maybe a smile dripping with blood. “It's a mad Friala,” Rosie said. And as she did, almost like the person heard her, she stepped outside. She was naked and had blood dripping down her chin onto her breasts and down her stomach. “Is a Friala a crazy, cannibal woman?” I asked as I looked at her body with grotesque. “No.” © 2013 Hannavas R.Author's Note
