A Poem by Nathan Mann

I swear I felt my heart drowning like a stone tossed to sea,
I can still feel it struggling to breathe,
when I remember how you said you loved me.
Sometimes I think I'm doing fine,
but when your face crosses my mind,
I recreate when we were skin on skin, I want to die.
I've filled this hole you left with beer and cigarettes,
so I have something to blame for every word sent your way,
and a cough to close the gap on the day I don't wish you'd stay.
